ITHACA, NY -- The RIT women's swimming and diving team placed third out of 10 teams at the 2018 Liberty League Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by Ithaca College from Feb, 21-24. The Tigers recorded a team score of 1,004.5 points. Rensselaer won the title with a score of 1,486 points, 50 points ahead of runner-up Ithaca.
Sedera Zbranak (Austin, TX/Lake Travis) continued her tremendous performance in the championship with a win Saturday in the 200-yard backstroke. She won the event in a championship record and NCAA "B" cut qualifying time of 2:02.31, which also broke her own school record, set last season.
Eleanor O'Gorman (Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth) was eighth in the event, while
Brenna Woodling (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East) finished ninth.
RIT wrapped up the championship with a third place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of Zbranak, Olivia Phillips,
Daylen Smith (Lockwood, NY/Waverly) and Katie Mayer came home in a time of 3:34.80, less than a second shy of the school mark set last year.
Amy Adams (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) placed fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing in a time of 2:28.52, while Mayer was eighth overall in 2:30.90.
Angela Petote-Bozza (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) was 19th and
Maria Echavarria (Bogota, Colombia/Colegio Neuva Granda) finished 21st.
Addy Maykish placed seventh in the 1,650-yard freestyle, finishing in a time of 18:12.68.
Smith placed eighth in the 100-yard freestyle, coming home in a time of 55.18 after finishing in 54.63 in the prelims.
Emily Lederman (Morgantown, WV/Morgantown) was 14th, recording a time of 54.95 seconds in the final.
Grace Morales (South Riding, VA/Freedom) was 22nd in 56.12 seconds.
Alaiya Tuntemeke placed eighth in the 3-meter diving competition with a score of 391.60, while
Patsy Hayes (San Jose, CA/Abraham Lincoln) was tied for 13th.
