ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (9-6, 6-2 Liberty League) women's lacrosse team kept its playoff hopes alive with a 15-9 win over William Smith College (7-8, 6-2 Liberty League) in Liberty League action from the RIT Turf Field on Friday afternoon. The Tigers remain a game ahead of St. Lawrence for the fourth and final spot in the conference standings. If RIT defeats Union on Saturday, they will clinch a spot in the Liberty League Tournament.

Rebecca Lampson (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan Academy) led RIT with seven points on four goals and three assists. (Landisville, PA/Hempfield)Loren Azlein (Cleveland, OH/Gilmour Academy)# also scored four goals for the TIgers, while

Shelby Vakiener (Fairport, NY/Fairport)# each scored three goals. Vakiener finished with six points on the day giving her 103 points in 2012. She is the first player in program history to score 100 or more points in a season.

Katelyn Crane (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon)# picked up her ninth win of the season allowing nine goals and making 16 saves.
William Smith was led by Lucy Johnson who had five goals on the afternoon. Kathleen Ragan and Kathryn Gillan each scored twice for the Herons, while Rosie Scheibel and Callie Frelinghuyse each dished out a pair of assists. Maggie McNair took the loss for William Smith allowing 15 goals and maiking six saves.
The Herons held a 36-30 shot advantage, while each team had 24 ground balls. The Herons won 17 draw controls, while RIT had nine. The Tigers were 22-of-26 on clearing attempts, while William Smith was 14-of-20 on the day.
RIT jumped out to a 5-1 lead, scoring the first three goals of the game. Lampson, Vlassis and Vakiener each scored to give the Tigers an early 3-0 lead.
Ragan broke the string with her 31st goal of the season off an assist from Schiebel with 19:44 to play in the first half.
Vakiener and Azlein scored consecutive goals to increas the Tigers lead to 5-1 with 16:12 to play in the opening half.
The Herons answered back with a pair of Gillan goals and one from Johnson to cut RIT's lead down to 5-4 at the 12:11 mark.
RIT closed out the half with a three-goal run, leading 9-4 at the break. Vlassis, Azlein and Lampson scored to give the Tigers a four goal cushion at the half.
The Tigers took the momentum from the end of the first into the second half, opening the half with three straight goals, taking an 11-5 lead on Vlassis' third goal of the game. The six goal lead was the largest lead of the day for RIT.
Ragan and Johnson scored back-toback goals to cut RIT's lead down to 11-6.
Vakiener and Azlein responded with a goal each to build the Tigers lead back to six goals at 13-6.
The Herons made a run late in the half with a three-goal run, cutting RIT's lead down to 13-9 on Johnson's, third, fourth and fifth goals of the game.
RIT closed out the game with consecutive goals from Azlein and Lampson to make it a 15-9 final.
The Tigers will close out the regular season on Saturday, April 28 when they host Union College at 2 p.m. on RIT's Turf Field. The Tigers will honor the senior class prior to the start of Saturday contest.
