ROCHESTER, NY - RIT swept all six Liberty League swimming and diving weekly awards on Monday, as Kate Baldwin, #
Sam Huselstein (Olean, NY/Olean)#, and
Jill Sirkis (Fairless Hills, PA/Pennsbury) from the women's team were honored, while #
Kevin Christiansen (Penfield, NY/Penfield)#, #
John Tellgren (Anoka, MN/Anoka)#, and #
Cory Spado (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool)# of the men's team received accolades. The women (2-3) defeated Alfred and Utica last week, while the men (4-1) fell to Alfred, but rebounded to defeat Utica.
Baldwin was named the Liberty League Swimmer of the week after winning three individual events and two relays, as the Tigers picked up their first two dual meet wins of the season over Alfred and Utica. On Thursday, she won the 50-yard freestyle in 25.57 seconds. On Saturday, Baldwin won the 50-yard freestyle in 26.08 seconds and took the 100-free by nearly three seconds in 57.67 seconds.
Huselstein was the Liberty League Diver of the Week, winning three diving events. On Thursday, she won the one-meter event over teammate
Nicky Rosenberg (Middleton, WI/Middleton) with a score of 207.40, and took first place in the three-meter event with a final score of 192.66. On Saturday, she won the 1-meter event.
Sirkis garnered Liberty League Rookie of the Week honors after winning three individual events and two relays. On Thursday, she won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.47. On Saturday, Sirkis won both the 200-yard individual medley by 10 seconds in 2:30.34, then annexed the 200-yard butterfly in 2:27.29.
Christiansen won five of the six events he competed in at two meets, against Alfred and Utica to earn Liberty League Swimmer of the Week honors. He won the 50-yard freestyle against Alfred with a time of 22.16, then on Saturday took the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:10.12 and the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:07.25. Christiansen was also part of the 200-yard freestyle relay team that won with a time of 1:28.94 against Alfred and the winning 200-yard medley relay team against Utica with a time of 1:43.49.
Tellgren won both the 1- and 3-meter diving against Alfred to earn Liberty League Diver of the Week honors. Tellgren won the 1-meter dive with a score of 282.80 and the 3-meter dive with a score of 268.35.
Spado picked up Liberty League Rookie of the Week honors after recording several top-3 finishes in the two meets. He won the 200-yard butterfly against Utica with a time of 2:10.48.
The Tigers are back in action on Jan. 14, 2012 at SUNY New Paltz.
