ROCHESTER, NY - Junior
Caitlyn Burr (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy) (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy) of the RIT women's swimming and diving team recorded two All-American honors at the 2009 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. She earned honorable mention All-American honors in the 200-yard individual medley on Wednesday and did the same in the 200-butterfly on Friday.
The preliminaries take place each day at 11 a.m. EST, while the finals get underway at 6:30 p.m. EST.
On Wednesday, Burr placed 16th in the preliminaries of the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:06.29, ensuring her honorable mention All-American honors. In the final, Burr went in 2:07.48 and finished 15th.
On Friday morning, Burr placed 11th in the preliminaries of the 200-yard butterfly, finishing the event in a time of 2:05.76, just 11 one-hundredths off her school record time and just 16 one-hundredths of a second from qualifying for a chance to swim in the championship final later this evening. She placed 13th overall in the final with a time of 2:06.00.
On Thursday, Burr placed 20th in the preliminaries of the 100-butterfly in a time of 57.69 seconds.
Burr has the sixth fastest time in the nation this season in the 200-yard individual medley (2:05.64), ninth fastest in the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.65) and 12th fastest time in the 100-fly (56.71).
Burr was named the 2009 UNYSCSA Swimmer of the Meet after winning three individual titles, setting three individual records and helping set four relay records. Burr holds seven different individual RIT school records and five relay records. She has set five individual school marks and three relay records this season.
She is RIT's first All-American on the women's side since Kathy Hugelier in 1992-93.
