SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY- The RIT women's cross country team enjoyed a stellar Saturday, as they finished seventh out of 24 teams on a rainy day and wet course at the Saratoga Invitational. The Tigers also placed second at the Empire 8 Championships, which were held in conjuction with the Saratoga meet.
RIT recorded a team total of 247 points, as St. Lawrence won the overall meet with 65 points. Ithaca, who placed second overall, won its sixth straight Empire 8 title.
2007 RIT graduate
Trisha Sliker (Albion, NY/Albion) finished seventh overall out of 267 runners, completing the 5,000-meter course in a time of 18:04.
Erin LaFave (Troy, MI/Bloomfield Hills Lahser) was RIT's top finisher, placing 28th overall and seventh in the Empire 8 with a time of 18:58. Arielle Januskiewicz was 40th overall and 10th in the conference with a time of 19:12.
Samantha Hawn (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) was eight seconds back, finishing 49th and 12th.
LaFave will earn All-Empire 8 first team honors, while Januskiewicz and Hawn will be second team selections for their efforts.
Abby Aker (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford) and
Emily Clark (Brant, NY/Lake Shore) were 59th and 76th overall, respectively. Aker finished in 19:27, while Clark was 24 seconds back.
Men's results will be available on Sunday, due to a scoring error.
The Tigers are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 8 as they travel to Clinton, N.Y. to compete in the NYSCTC Championships at 11 a.m.
