ROCHESTER, NY – Junior pole vaulter
Ethan Maguire (Penfield, NY/Penfield) of the RIT men's track and field team will represent the university at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship on Friday, March 9 at the CrossPlex Complex in Birmingham, Ala. He will compete at 4:30 p.m. EST/3:30 p.m. CST Friday.
Maguire, who also represented RIT at the 2016 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, is enjoying an excellent season for the Tigers, with three victories, including a season-best vault of 4.89 meters at the RIT February Invitational, which is 11th best among the 15 student-athletes in the NCAA Championship field. On Feb. 23, Maguire won his first Liberty League Championship in the pole vault, clearing 4.75 meters and last weekend, placed third at the All-Atlantic Region Championships.
He is a three-time Liberty League Performer of the Week and two-time RIT Male Athlete of the Week.
Maguire recorded a personal-best vault of 4.92 meters to win at the 2016 NYSCTC Indoor Championships. He will look to become RIT's first indoor track and field All-American since Matt Giannino in 2015.
Otto Kingstedt (Stockholm, Sweden/Cybergymnasiet) was an All-American in the 10,000-meters at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
