Jess Calzolari (Longmont, CO/Mead) of the RIT women's track and field team, was named the 2017 Liberty League Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year on Wednesday, June 7. She was also named the 2017 Liberty League Indoor Field Athlete of the Year in March.
Recently named to the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-District Women's Track and Field Team, Calzolari wrapped up a tremendous four-year career at RIT, earning 2017 Liberty League Outdoor Field Athlete of the Meet honors. During the spring season, Calzolari won the long jump and triple jump events at the Liberty League Outdoor Championships and recorded a top score of 4,150 in the heptathlon at the NYSCTC Championships. She also earned a top-five finish in the heptathlon at the prestigious Penn Relays.
Calzolari was also the 2017 Liberty League Indoor Field Athlete of the Championship Meet and Liberty League Indoor Field Athlete of the Year, while representing RIT in the pentathlon at the 2017 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. In addition, Calzolari won the long jump and triple jump at the Liberty League Indoor Championship on Feb. 11 at the Gordon Field House, leading the Tigers to their first league title. She recorded a career-best score of 3,234 points in the pentathlon on Feb. 24 at the NYSCTC Championships.
Calzolari holds RIT records in the indoor (11.42 meters) and outdoor (11.26 meters) triple jump, and outdoor high jump (1.62 meters). In 2016-17, Calzolari was an eight-time Liberty League Field Athlete of the Week and earned two RIT Female Athlete of the Week honors.
