ROCHESTER, NY – Seniors
Michael Kist (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) and
Chris Schwab (Holliston, MA/Xaverian Brothers) of the RIT men's track and field team were named to the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-District Men's Track and Field/Cross Country Team, announced on May 25.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. The 2017 Division III National Academic All-America honorees are to be announced on June 21.
Kist, who recently earned a bachelor's and master's degree in industrial engineering, enjoyed a tremendous 3.86 grade-point average as an undergraduate and had a perfect 4.0 in his master's classes. In addition, Kist was a three-time Liberty League All-Academic Team selection and was a nine-time dean's list recipient. He presented research at the annual Conference on Applied Statistics in Defense at George Mason University in 2015 and received a Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt.
Serving as one of RIT's pole vaulters, Kist recorded a career-best height of 4.45 meters. He was the 2017 Liberty League Indoor Championship runner-up and was second at the 2013 Liberty League Outdoor Championships.
Schwab, who recently earned a bachelor's and master's degree in electrical engineering, enjoyed a tremendous 4.0 grade-point average as an undergraduate and in his master's classes. He is looking to become a CoSIDA All-America selection for the second straight year, having earned third team honors in 2016. It is his second straight Academic All-Region selection. Schwab was an RIT Presidential Scholar, four-year member of the RIT Honors program, and 2015 RIT Outstanding Undergraduate Scholar. In addition, he was an eight-time Dean's List recipient and eight-time Liberty League All-Academic team selection (four track and field, four cross country).
On the track, Schwab recorded career-best times of 4:12.21 in the 1,500-meters, 4:41.10 in the mile, 9:33.15 in the 3,000-meter run, and 15:39 in the 5,000-meter run. Schwab broke 27 minutes in cross country at the Rowan University Border Battle in 2016.
