Calzolari and Stanley record top finishes for RIT at 2017 NYSCTC Heptathlon

PITTSFORD, NY – Senior Jess Calzolari (Longmont, CO/Mead) and freshman Brooke Stanley (Minnetonka, MN/Benilde-St. Margaret's) of RIT women's track and field earned points in the heptathlon, as the Tigers began action in the multi-events portion of the 2017 NYSCTC Championship at Nazareth College on April 30 and May 1.
 
For the second consecutive week, Calzolari recorded a career-best performance, recording 4,150 points to finish second overall out of 14 competitors. Stanley placed seventh overall in her first collegiate heptathlon, recording 3,400 points. Overall, the duo combined to give RIT 10 points in the event, second behind Rochester's 16. Kylee Bartlett, the 2017 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Champion in the pentathlon, won the NYSCTC heptathlon with 4,937, which is currently the top score among all Division III student-athletes this season.
 
Calzolari was second after Sunday's action with 2,470 points over the first four events and held that position with the three events Monday. She started by finishing second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.04 seconds before clearing 1.49 meters in the high jump, which tied for third. Calzolari was second in the shot put with a throw of 9.77 meters and runner-up in the 200-meter run, crossing the finish line in 27.92 seconds. On Monday, Calzolari placed second in the long jump with a leap of 5.26 meters, third in the javelin with a throw of 27.45 meters, and third in the 800-meters, crossing the finish line in 2:35.85.
 
Calzolari, the 2017 Liberty League Indoor and Outdoor Championship Field Athlete of the Meet, now has the 20th best score in the heptathlon this season. She competed at the 2017 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in the pentathlon.
 
Stanley made a strong push on Monday after finishing Sunday's action tenth overall. Stanley finished tenth in the 100-meter hurdles (17.90 seconds), cleared 1.49 meters in the high jump to tie for third, was seventh in the shot put (8.10 meters), and 14th in the 200-meter run (30.03 seconds) Sunday. On Monday, Stanley tied for ninth in the long jump (4.57 meters), placed sixth in the javelin (24.07 meters), and finished the meet by placing seventh in the 800-meters (2:37.69).
 
The NYSCTC Championships will continue on Friday, May 5 and Saturday, May 6 at the Polisseni Track and Field complex on the campus of St. John Fisher.
