PHILADELPHIA, PA — Senior
Jess Calzolari (Longmont, CO/Mead) of the women's track and field team sits in fifth place out of seven competitors throughout Division I, II, and III in the heptathlon after day one of the multi-events portion of the Penn Relays, hosted by Penn University Tuesday.
Cazolari finished with 2,408 points on day one, just 79 points behind Nicole Galewski of Division II Franklin Pierce, and 135 points ahead of Emily Hagarty of Division II Adelphi. Cazolari is the top Division III heptathlete in the event after the first day. Janelle Perry of Division II Ursuline sits in first place, with 2,769 points.
After a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles, Cazolari finished in a tie for second place in the high jump, with a top jump of 1.55 meters. She finished the day off with a sixth-place finish in the shot put and fifth-place finish in the 200-meter dash. Cazolari sits 361 points behind the leader after the first four events.
The seven competitors will return to action in the heptathlon Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., where they will compete in the long jump, javelin, and 800-meter dash.
Hailey Burkhart (Underhill, VT/Mt. Mansfield Union) is RIT's school record holder in the event, with 4,332 points, set in 2015.
The Tigers will compete at St. John Fisher College on Saturday at 10 a.m.
