ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's track and field team will look to win its first Liberty League Outdoor Track and Field Championship as Vassar will host the 2017 championship meet at Weinburg Track on Saturday, April 22, starting at 10 a.m.

RIT is looking to keep the momentum rolling after winning its first Liberty League Indoor Track and Field Championship in February. Last season, the Tigers placed third at the outdoor championships, as Rensselaer broke St. Lawrence's run of four straight outdoor titles.

The Tigers are well represented in virtually every event. On the field side, senior Kendra Bush (Palmyra, NY/Newark) will vie for league titles in the shot put, discus, and hammer throw. Bush, who won the Liberty League title in the discus last season with a championship record throw of 39.80 meters, has the 41st best shot put in Division III at 12.87 meters this season. In addition, Rachel Goldberg (Olney, MD/Sherwood), Emily Zebrowski (Springville, NY/Springville), and Julia Wojciechowski (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) will look to score in the throwing events.

Jess Calzolari (Longmont, CO/Mead) has the 38th best triple jump nationally, after breaking a 25-year old school record twice in two weeks. She will be called upon to compete in several events on both the track and field side. She will also be a leading contender in the 100-meter hurdles and high jump.

Pole vaulters Samantha Kaplan (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz), Madeline Pizzo (Irondequoit, NY/Our Lady of Mercy), and Kimberly Kiefer rank among the best in the Liberty League and will all vie for the league title. Calzolari, along with fellow jumpers Darcy DeAngelis (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport), and Kaitlyn Houghtling (Elmira, NY/Thomas A. Edison) will be in contention for titles in the long jump and triple jump. Houghtling has the league's top long jump (5.38 meters), while DeAngelis has the second best triple jump (10.87 meters) heading into the weekend.

Marissa Dispenza (Batavia, NY/Batavia) will look to represent the Tigers in both the sprints and hurdle events. Last weekend, she broke her own school record and has the 37th fastest time nationally (1:04.69) in the 400-meter hurdles. In addition, Dispenza has the second fastest time in the 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter dash among all Liberty League runners.

Jessica DeAngelo (Batavia, NY/Alexander), along with Dispenza, and Calzolari, are leading contenders in the 100-meter hurdles. Dispenza, Ali Binga (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) and Anka Parzych (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) will also be strong contenders in the 400-meter hurdles. Emily Young (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster), along with Amelia Brunner (East Petersburg, PA/Hempfield), Binga, Calzolari, Houghtling, and DeAngelis will look to score points for the Tigers in the sprint events.

Becca Schwan (LeRoy, NY/LeRoy) and Emma Jones (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) are top contenders for the Tigers in the middle distance events.  Schwan is ranked 24th nationally in the 800-meters with a career-best time of 2:15.21, which is also the fastest time in the league to date. Jones, who competed in the mile run at the 2017 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, also has a top time of 2:20.51 in the 800-meters, and the 19th fastest time nationally (second among Liberty League runners) in the 1,500-meters at 4:38.36. Martine Bosch (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) has the fifth fastest time (4:48.79 among all Liberty League runners in the 1,500-meters as well.

Bosch and Alex Carpenter (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) have enjoyed success in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while Nicole Mackey (South New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley), Hannah Weppner (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora), and Brooke Busa (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) are also contenders in the distance events.

RIT's relay teams will be well represented, as the 4 x 100-, 4 x 400-, and 4 x 800-meter relay teams are always among the league leaders.
