GENESEO, NY – The RIT men's track and field began its 2017 outdoor season at the non-scoring Geneseo Early Season Invitational on Sunday.
RIT's 4 x 100-meter relay team of
Kyle Kaniecki (Burton, OH/West Geauga),
Matthew Lienhard (Allentown, PA/Allentown Catholic),
Rob Dalheim (Rochester, NY/Brockport), and
Curtis Geiger (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) emerged victorious in a time of 43.05 seconds. RIT's "C" team of
Jason Freeman (Chester, NY/Chester Academy),
Andrew DeRose (Shrewsbury, NJ/Red Bank Regional),
Akachi Okafor (), and
Jeremy McGrath (Chittenango, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) was second in 44.14 seconds. RIT also had the fourth, fifth, and seventh place finishers in the event.
Geiger and
Christopher Callejo (West Babylon, NY/Patchouge-Medford) finished first and second overall in the 400-meter dash. Geiger won in a time of 50.04 seconds, while Callejo was 29 one-hundredths of a second back in second.
Eric Hambleton (Weare, NH/Bishop Brady) placed eighth.
Myles Garner (Gurnee, IL/Warren Township) had the fastest time in the 110-meter hurdles, 15.70 seconds, before placing second in the final with a time of 15.89 seconds.
Frank Borseti (Andover, MA/Andover) placed fifth (16.72) and
Jeremy McGrath (Chittenango, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) was sixth (16.80). Dalheim (1:02.08) and
Evan Williams (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) (1:02.31) were seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 400-meter hurdles.
Lienhard and
Alaraba Sodiq Oladipo (Lagos, Nigeria/DoEstdot International) were third and fourth in the 100-meter dash. Lienhard crossed the finish line in 11.33 seconds, while Sodiq Oladipo was 13 one-hundredths of a second back.
Matthew Meehan (West Caldwell, NJ/Caldwell) finished seventh in the 800-meter run in 1:59.92.
Tommy Papish (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) placed ninth in the 5,000-meters in 15:52.40.
On the field side,
Nick Ng (Wayland, MA/Wayland) was fourth in the long jump with a leap of 6.37 meters.
Jake Saxton (Merrimack, NH/Bishop Brady) placed third in the shot put with a toss of 14.13 meters.
Zach Darling (Rome, PA/Northeast Bradford) was third in the hammer throw, firing it 44.00 meters, while
Rajab Curtis (New York City, NY/Deerfield Academy) placed third in the javelin with a throw of 49.06 meters.
Michael Whelton (Boston, MA/Londonderry) finished fifth in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 4.55 meters.
Jack Smith (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) was right behind at 4.25 meters.
The Tigers are back in action next Saturday, April 8 at Nazareth's ROC City Classic that gets underway at 10 a.m.
