ROCHESTER, NY – Senior outfielder
Will Gorman (Nassau, NY/Columbia) of the RIT baseball team, was named a 2017 D3baseball.com Honorable Mention Preseason All-American.
Gorman is coming off an incredible 2016 season, earning 2016 D3Baseball.com and Rawlings American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-New York Region First Team honors and All-Liberty League first team accolades for the second consecutive year.
In 2016, Gorman re-wrote the single-season record book at RIT. He set single-season school marks with 61 hits, 166 at-bats, eight home runs, 52 runs batted in, and 107 total bases, while stealing eight bases, batting .367, and slugging .645. He was incredible over the last 12 games of the season, hitting five homers, while driving in 34 runs. Gorman finished the season by slugging 1.032 with 24 RBIs over his final seven games, including a single-game record tying eight RBIs against Bard on May 7. He had 18 multiple-hit games and reached base in all but three games.
This added on to a 2015 season in which Gorman hit seven home runs and added 46 RBIs, while batting .363 to go along with 27 walks. As a freshman in 2014, Gorman hit .351 with two homers and 14 RBIs in just 77 at-bats.
Gorman is second all-time at the university with 17 home runs and 112 RBIs and third with a .624 career slugging percentage. He is a career .362 hitter with 22 doubles and 23 triples, 14 stolen bases, and has a .426 on-base percentage.
"Will has had a great three years for us and is one of the most feared hitters in Division III," said RIT head baseball coach
Rob Grow. "He has worked hard to make sure his senior year is the best year yet and lead our team to the postseason."
RIT recorded 18 wins in 2016 and begins the 2017 season on March 3-4 at Arcadia University. RIT is scheduled to play 40 regular season games in 2017.
