Women's track and field has strong showing at Tiger Invitational

ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's track and field team put forth a strong showing at the Tiger Invitational held on campus at the Gordon Field House Friday evening.
 
Senior Emma Jones (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) was RIT's lone winner on the track side, cruising to a win in the 800-meter run by just over a second, finishing in a time of 2:22.28.
 
On the field side, Kendra Bush (Palmyra, NY/Newark) led a first and third place charge in the shot put. Bush had the top throw of 12.68 meters, while Madeline Pizzo (Irondequoit, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) placed third by throwing the shot 11.40 meters. Freshman Samantha Kaplan (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz), the two-time reigning Liberty League Rookie of the Week, once again won the pole vault with a top vault of 3.22 meters. Julia Wojciechowski (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) had an impressive third place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 13.41 meters, while Bush was right behind at 13.40 meters.
 
Kaitlyn Houghtling (Elmira, NY/Thomas A. Edison) and Ali Binga (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) were second and third, respectively, in the 200-meter dash. Houghtling had a time of 27.64 seconds, while Binga was just two one-hundredths of a second back in third. Houghtling was also second in the triple jump with a strong leap of 10.75 meters. Darcy DeAngelis (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) was right behind in third at 10.73 meters.
 
RIT had the fourth, fifth, and sixth place finishers in the 60-meter hurdles. Marissa Dispenza (Batavia, NY/Batavia) was fourth in 9.54 seconds, while Jessica DeAngelo (Batavia, NY/Alexander) was right behind in fifth with a time of 9.62 seconds and Jess Calzolari (Longmont, CO/Mead) finished sixth (9.66). D'Angelo ran a personal best 9.60 seconds in the preliminaries.
 
Amelia Brunner (East Petersburg, PA/Hempfield) recorded a sixth place finish in the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:04.33. In the 3,000-meter run, Martine Bosch (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) placed third overall in a time of 10:40.56, while Hannah Weppner (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora) was sixth overall in 11:04.40 and Brooke Busa (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) placed ninth.
 
Jeriann Beiter (Lima, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) placed fourth overall in the mile run with a time of 5:33.77, while Alex Carpenter (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) was right behind in sixth, finishing in 5:40.86.
 
Emily Mills (Dracut, MA/Central Catholic) was seventh in the high jump with a leap of 1.40 meters.
 
RIT is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 11 as they host the Liberty League Championship from the Gordon Field House.
