ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT men's track and field team enjoyed several standout performances at the Tiger Invitational held on campus at the Gordon Field House Friday evening.
The Tigers opened the day with the top finishers in the medley relay. The group of
Brian Cusack (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional),
Andrew McPherson (Baldwin, NY/Kellenberg),
Otto Kingstedt (), and
Jake Barker (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) were victorious in a time of 10:39.72 by nearly four seconds over
Andrew Chabot (Campton, NH/Plymouth Regional),
Jimmy Petrocchi (Dracut, MA/Dracut),
Daniel Carpenter (Gloucester, MA/Gloucester), and
James Bailey (Danvers, MA/Danvers).
Ethan Maguire (Penfield, NY/Penfield) led a strong contingent in the pole vault, winning the event with a top vault of 4.70 meters.
Austin White (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) was right behind with a leap of 4.55 meters, while
Jack Smith (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) and
Michael Whelton (Boston, MA/Londonderry) both had top jumps of 4.40 meters.
Matt Chuttey (Throop, NY/Port Byron) was fourth in the long jump with a top leap of 1.63 meters, while
Noah Flynn (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) placed sixth in the triple jump at 11.29 meters.
Jake Saxton (Merrimack, NH/Bishop Brady) (13.09 meters),
Zach Darling (Rome, PA/Northeast Bradford) (12.92 meters),
Sean Terry (Hornell, NY/Hornell) (12.84 meters),
Mickey Evans (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville North) (12.73 meters), and
Kent Kellar (Wells, ME/Wells) (12.60 meters) highlighted a RIT surge in the shot put, as Saxton led five straight place winners in third for the Tigers. Saxton was seventh in the weight throw with a toss of 14.56 meters, while Darling was right behind in eighth (14.24 meters).
Curtis Geiger (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) and
Christopher Callejo (West Babylon, NY/Patchouge-Medford) were second and third in the 400-meters, just nine one-hundredths of a second apart. Geiger had the strong time of 51.60 seconds.
Eric Hambleton (Weare, NH/Bishop Brady) (52.22 seconds) and
Matthew Meehan (West Caldwell, NJ/Caldwell) (52.34 seconds) were also fifth and sixth.
Daniel Giuliano (Ledgewood, NJ/Roxbury) was second in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.78 seconds, while
Frank Borseti (Andover, MA/Andover) (9.19 seconds) and
Mike Kahovec (Victor, NY/Victor) (9.26) were third and fourth.
Markus Hines (Buffalo, NY/Hutchinson Tech.) placed fourth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.19 seconds.
Matthew Lienhard (Allentown, PA/Allentown Catholic) was second in the 200-meter dash in a time of 23.27 seconds, while
Rob Dalheim (Rochester, NY/Brockport) was fifth in 23.40 seconds.
Jon Ennin (Sunnyvale, TX/Sunnyvale) and
Kyle Kaniecki (Burton, OH/West Geauga) were seventh and eighth.
In distance events,
Tommy Papish (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) was third in the 3,000-meters in a time of 9:07.86.
Chris Schwab (Holliston, MA/Xaverian Brothers) and
Grigoriy Gressel (Brookline, MA/Brookline) were eighth and tenth, respectively, in the mile.
RIT is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 11 as they host the Liberty League Championship from the Gordon Field House.
