ROCHESTER, NY - Sophomore guard
Cori Okada (Fullerton, CA/Troy) of the RIT women's basketball team, was named the Liberty League Player of the Week on Monday, for the week ending Feb. 26, 2017. It is Okada's first Liberty League weekly accolade of her collegiate career.
Okada was named the Liberty League Tournament Most Outstanding Player over the weekend, leading the RIT women's basketball team to its first conference title and first trip to the NCAA Tournament. Okada averaged 19.5 points and 6.0 assists, while shooting 50 percent from the floor and shot 44.4 percent from behind the arc in two tournament contests. Wednesday, Okada tallied 18 points, including 12 in the second half to lead the Tigers to a 62-45 win over William Smith in the semifinals. Okada tallied 21 points and had eight assists in the title game versus Clarkson, shooting 7-of-14 from the field.
Okada leads the Tigers, averaging 14.3 points and 4.6 assists per game, while shooting 48 percent from the field and 83.6 percent from the foul line.
RIT heads to Ithaca for the opening weekend of the 2017 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament. The Tigers take on host Ithaca on Friday evening. The winner of that contest will advance to face the winner of Bowdoin College and SUNY New Paltz on Saturday evening in Ithaca.
