UTICA, NY -- The RIT men's indoor track and field team competed at the Utica College Invitational Saturday. The Tigers turned in several solid performances both on the track and field sides.
RIT had four runners place in the top-six in the 500-meter dash.
Rob Dalheim (Rochester, NY/Brockport) placed first in a time of 1:07.00.
Matthew Meehan (West Caldwell, NJ/Caldwell) was second in a time of 1:02.60.
Derek Swarthout (Macedon, NY/Penfield) placed fifth (1:08.19), and
Eric Hambleton (Weare, NH/Bishop Brady) was sixth (1:08.49).
In the 1,000-meters, RIT had three runners place in the top nine.
Grant Salk (Livermore, CA/Granada) won the event in a time of 2:36.13.
Dan Jones (Lockport, NY/Lockport) was fourth in a time of 2:39.95, and
Seth Baker (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) was ninth in a time of 2:40.25.
The 4 x 200-meter relay team of
Christopher Callejo (West Babylon, NY/Patchouge-Medford),
Curtis Geiger (Allentown, PA/Emmaus),
Kyle Kaniecki (Burton, OH/West Geauga) and
Matthew Lienhard (Allentown, PA/Allentown Catholic) won the race in a time of 1:30.68. Kaniecki was sixth in the 60-meter dash (7.21), while
Myles Garner (Gurnee, IL/Warren Township) placed sixth in the 60-meter dash (8.63).
In the 4 x 400-meter relay, the team of Dalheim, Hambleton, Meehan and Swarthout placed second in a time of 3:26.58.
Dylan Ulm (Camillus, NY/West Genesee) placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 10.81 meters.
Ethan Ettienne (Lanham, MD/Model Secondary School for the Deaf) was sixth with a throw of 10.50 meters. Ulm placed fifth in the weight throw with a toss of 9.83 meters.Â
Jack Bates (Bath, NY/Bath-Haverling) was sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 12.25 meters.
RIT returns to action on Friday, Feb. 24 when the Tigers begin competition at the 2017 NYSCTC Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by St. Lawrence University. Competition Friday begins at 3 p.m., and continues on Saturday at 10 a.m.
