ROCHESTER, NY -- For the first time since joining in 2011, the RIT women's track and field team Tigers won the Liberty League Indoor Track and Field Championships at Gordon Field House Saturday afternoon. The Tigers beat out Rensselaer with a team score of 206 points. Senior Jess Calzolari (Longmont, CO/Mead) was named Female Field Athlete of the Meet after winning two events, while placing second and fourth in other events.

"Four women showed for my very first track meeting 20 years ago," said RIT head coach Dave Warth. "They have won a New York State championship and now a league championship. It is a testament to the women we have here at RIT. They are determined, good at setting goals and good at achieving those goals."

Calzolari won the long jump with a leap of 5.25 meters, and took home first place in the triple jump with a school record jump of 11.38 meters. She was second in the 60-meter hurdles (9.46 seconds) and placed fourth in the high jump (1.53 meters).

Becca Schwan (LeRoy, NY/LeRoy) won the 800-meter dash, with an excellent time of 2:19.95. Emma Jones (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) took home the title in the 3,000-meters, winning in a time of 10:26.05. Jones also was second in the mile, finishing in a time of 5:08.12

In the 60-meter hurdles, RIT placed first, second and fourth in the finals. Jessica DeAngelo (Batavia, NY/Alexander) won the event in a time of 9.42. Calzolari was right behind in the second, while Marissa Dispenza (Batavia, NY/Batavia) was fourth in a time of 9.91. The Tigers placed third, fourth and sixth in the 60-meter dash. Ali Binga (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) was third in a time of 8.39, while Emily Young (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) placed fourth in a time of 8.32. DeAngelis placed sixth in a time of 8.36.

RIT began the meet taking third, fourth and fifth in the 5,000-meters. Nicole Mackey (South New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley) was fourth in a time of 18:47.06, while Faith Gruver (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) was fourth in a time of 18:56.21. Jeriann Beiter (Lima, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) placed fifth in a time of 19:31.75. Binga placed third in the 200-meter dash (27.24).

In the pole vault, DeAngelo won the title with a jump of 3.07 meters. Samantha Kaplan (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz) placed second with a leap of 3.07 meters, and Rachel Douglas (Latrobe, PA/Greater Latrobe) was third with a jump of 2.92 meters. The long jump saw RIT sweep the top three spots. Calzolari won the event with a jump of 5.25 meters. DeAngelis was second with a jump of 5.18 meters, and Kaitlyn Houghtling (Elmira, NY/Thomas A. Edison) was third with a leap of 5.14 meters.

In relay action, RIT won the 4x200-meter relay. The team of Young, Binga, Dispenza and Houghtling won the event in a time of 1:49.35. The team of Binga, Amelia Brunner (East Petersburg, PA/Hempfield), Schwan and Dispenza came home second in the 4x400-meter relay, while Schwan, Sarah Cannon (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta), Bosch and Jones won the Distance Medley relay in a time of 12:57.64.

Kendra Bush (Palmyra, NY/Newark) won the shot put with a throw of 12.55 meters, while Madeline Pizzo (Irondequoit, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) was fourth with a throw of 11.43 meters. Calzolari placed first in the triple jump with a school-record jump of 11.38 meters. Houghtling was second with a jump of 10.60 meters, while DeAngelis was third with a jump of 10.59 meters.

The Tigers will compete at the Utica Invitational next Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m. in Utica, N.Y.
