ROCHESTER, NY – For the second consecutive season, junior
James Bailey (Danvers, MA/Danvers) of the RIT men's cross country squad earned 2016 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country (USTFCCCA) All-Academic honors. All honorees must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30 and finished in the top 25 percent in its respectable regional meet.
Bailey, a new media design major, earned his first All-American honor, placing 27th at the NCAA Championships. He recorded four top-10 finishes for the Tigers in 2016, including a victory in the season-opening Cardinal Early Season Invitational hosted by St. John Fisher. Bailey was fifth at the 2016 NCAA Atlantic Region Championship in a career best time of 24:28.3 on Nov. 11, earning him All-Region accolades. Bailey was also fourth at the Yellowjacket Invitational, hosted by the University of Rochester on Sept. 17 and eighth at the Liberty League Championship on Oct. 29, earning All-Liberty League second team accolades.
Bailey was a five-time RIT Male Athlete of the Week during the 2016 cross country season. He is a two-time All-Atlantic Region selection and in 2015, was an All-Liberty League first team pick.
Bailey is now a two-time Liberty League and USTFCCCA All-Academic Team selection. He was one of 290 men from 119 cross country teams to earn USTFCCCA All-Academic accolades.
The Tigers finished the 2016 cross country fourth at the Liberty League Championships, and 11th at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championship.
