ROCHESTER, NY – RIT Women's Crew raced on their home river Saturday at the Head of the Genesee Regatta. The Tigers had a great day of competitive racing with the varsity eight finishing in second behind Hamilton College, with the second varsity eight finishing third in their event, and the first novice eight finishing second, and the second novice eight finishing twelfth.
In the Women's Collegiate Eight race, the RIT varsity eight of
Erin Loughran (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy),
Colleen Albert (Burlington, CT/Lewis S. Mills),
Emma Kate Flanagan (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs),
Claire Thomas (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland),
Mickyla Schnupp (Fairport, NY/Fairport),
Olivia Sanders (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge),
Hayley Richardson (Kennebunk, ME/Kennebunk),
Helen Siegrist (Rochester, NY/Brighton), and
Colleen Ryan (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) powered down the course as the first seed and finished second with a time of 17:54.04, sixteen seconds behind first place finisher, Hamilton College (17:37.70) and twelve seconds ahead of third place finisher William Smith (18:06.10).
RIT's second varsity eight of

Regina Chartier (Nashua, NH/Nashua South),
Jordan Melita (North Chili, NY/Churchville Chili),
Emma Will (Squantum, MA/Woodward School for Girls),
Anna Schum-Houck (Rochester, NY/Aquinas),
Michelle Kwong (Oakland Gardens, NY/Bronx Science),
Brook Fitzpatrick (Jacksonville, FL/Stanton College Prep),
Rachel Schwall (Simsbury, CT/Henry James), and
Varada Krishnadas (Canton, MA/Canton) finished third in their event in a time of 19:02.46 behind winner Hamilton College (18:44.08) and second place finisher, William Smith College (19:02.46).
In the Women's Novice Eight race, the Tigers' line-up of Cecelia Weber, Alyssa Loukola, Riley Kieffer, Tirzah Pilet, Allison Carey, Marisa Cohen, Emily Barclay, Aimee Spisak, and Cassidy Goodwin earned silver with a time of 20:07.15 behind winner William Smith College (19:55.94). The University of Rochester finished third and Hamilton College fourth in a thirteen-boat field. RIT's second novice eight of
Julia Solinas (Brookline, NH/Brookline), Kristina Kaszei,
Grace Olive (), Olivia Foletta, Willow Smith, Madison Ross, Mary McCombs, Cinthia Shum Chen, and Joanna St. Clair finished twelfth in a time of 24:09.92.
Head Coach
Jim Bodenstedt commented on the day's racing with much excitement. "No matter where I was standing today, I heard the words "RIT" coming from many directions and conversations. I am so proud of our women's program and how they raced. All four boats raced with intensity and Tiger pride. It's always fun to race at home, and we are looking forward to the upcoming regattas to showcase more boat speed.
The Tigers return to racing on Sunday, Oct. 22 at the Head of the Charles in Boston.
