ROCHESTER, NY – RIT Men's Crew raced on their home river Saturday at the Head of the Genesee Regatta, making history for the first time as repeat winners of the Kate Louise Cup in the varsity men's collegiate eight event, and repeat winners in the Men's Novice Eight race. RIT Men's Crew swept the eights' events.
In the Men's Collegiate Eight race, the RIT varsity eight of Chris Atras,
Matt Kehoe (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca),
Konstantin Hamilton (Gaithersburg, MD/Magruder),
Joe Grosso (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Prep),
John Habjan (New Milford, CT/New Milford),
Ramsey Doolittle (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon), Matt Fitzgerald,
Spencer Gasiorowski (Milwaukee, WI/Whitefish Bay), and
Connor Murdock (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton) powered down the course as the first seed and finished first with a time of 15:42.72, ahead of second place finisher Ithaca College (15:57.27).
RIT's second varsity eight of Matt Gallagher, Adriano DeCastro,
Nicholas Amendola (Buffalo,NY/Orchard Park),
Tim Preskenis (Simsbury, CT/Simsbury),
Michael Trossman (Canonsburg, PA/Canon McMillan),
Tim Mastellar (Romulus, NY/Romulus),
Jakob Southern (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton),
Dan Measer (Westford, MA/Westford Academy), and Nick Krzysiak finished first in the second varsity eight event in a time of 16:02.58, one place ahead of the RIT B entry of
Liam Brodie (New York, NY/John Jay),
Cole Hornbeck (Fallston, MD/Fallston), Andrew DeVries,
George Glynn (Brockport, NY/Brockport),
James Martin (Scotia, NY/Burnt Hills),
Dan Kamen (New York, NY/Brooklyn Technical), Elliot Gengo, and
Krubell Mekonen (West Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta), and Jek Poirier. Rowing in the Gos2, the B entry finished third in a time of 17:05.54.
For the second year in a row, the Tigers fielded three boats and won the men's novice eight event. The RIT A line-up of Aaric Celeste,
Daniel Shaw (Wilton, NY/Saratoga Springs),
Cameron Ling (), Mark Rutherford, Joshua McFadden, Joshua Fox, Zennon Appler, Sean Rembecki, and Reginold Minor finished first in a time of 17:54.79 ahead of second place finisher Ithaca (18:38.55). The RIT B line-up of Theo McDowell, Will Gorczyca, Matt Simonetty, Colton Brown, Rees Folaron, Sean Kloss, Ben Copeland, Matthew Kuhl, and Gary Millington finished fourth overall in a time of 18:53.02. The RIT C line-up of Vincent Lobo, Ian Swete, Justin Durant, Bill Kern, Anthony LoBianco, Dan Kelly, Owen McClure, Lucas Burnette, Mookpolo Wait finished sixth in a time of 20:23.47.
The Tigers also fielded a Men's Alumni Eight of recent graduates. Rowing in the Gos3, the line-up of Cameron Baker, Jonathon Massari, Sean Kennelly, Dylan Bannon, Justin Carter, Eric Schulken,
Tim Frey (New Freedom, PA/Susquehannock),
Doug Moyer (Downingtown, PA/Dowingtown West), and Sam Adams posted a respectable time of 16:57.39 over the SUNY Geneseo Alumni Eight (17:54.40).
Head Coach
Jim Bodenstedt commented on the day's racing with much excitement. "No matter where I was standing today, I heard the words "RIT" coming from many directions and conversations. I am so proud of our men's program and how they raced. All six boats raced with intensity and Tiger pride. It's always fun to race at home, and we are looking forward to the upcoming regattas to showcase more boat speed.
The Tigers return to racing on Sunday, Oct. 22 at the Head of the Charles in Boston.
