2017 RIT softball regular season schedule unveiled

Tigers to play 40 regular season games in 2017

ROCHESTER, NY – RIT softball head coach Rebecca Stryker announced the 2017 regular season schedule on Wednesday, Jan. 25. The Tigers are scheduled to play 40 contests, including 12 at Tiger Stadium.
 
RIT opens the season on March 3-4 with four games at the Virginia Wesleyan Beach Blast in Norfolk, Va. The Tigers are scheduled to take on Hunter College, Lancaster Bible College, Western Connecticut State, and St. Joseph's-Brooklyn.
 
A week later, RIT will embark on its annual Spring trip to the National Training Center Spring Games in Clermont, Fla. from March 11-16. The Tigers will play 10 games, one each against the United States Coast Guard Academy, The Sage Colleges, Western New England University, Gordon College, Westfield State University, University of Scranton, Millikin University, Gallaudet University, Macalester College, and Plattsburgh State University.
 
The Tigers return home and play their first home games of the season, a doubleheader against Oswego State on March 25 from Tiger Stadium. Five days later, RIT is set to host 2016 NCAA Tournament participant Keuka in a doubleheader. RIT will also host non-conference doubleheaders against SUNY Geneseo on April 19 and wrap up the regular season with a pair of games against Nazareth College on April 30.
 
RIT will non-conference doubleheaders at The College of Brockport on April 5, 2016 NCAA World Series participant St. John Fisher College on April 13 and Alfred University on April 26.
 
RIT is scheduled to play 12 of its 40 regular season games against Liberty League foes and opens conference play with back-to-back road doubleheaders at Skidmore College on April 8 and Clarkson University the following day. The Tigers also travel to face St. Lawrence for two games on April 15 and defending league champion University of Rochester on April 29.
 
The Tigers play their only home league games against Union College on April 22 and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on April 23.
 
"We are looking forward getting a jump start on the season with games the first weekend in March in Virginia Beach and will continue right to our spring training in Florida," said RIT head coach Rebecca Stryker. "We have some tough non-conference games on our schedule leading up to the start of our conference games in April, where we will look to jump right in to another competitive Liberty League season."
 
The Liberty League Tournament will take place on May 4-6 at the highest seed. The top four teams in regular season play make the league tournament and play a double elimination format. The Liberty League Champion will earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
 
RIT finished the 2016 season with 17 wins and finished tied for third in the Liberty League standings with a 6-6 record, advancing to its first postseason tournament since joining in 2012.
