ROCHESTER, NY - Sophomore goaltender
Jenna de Jonge (Abbotsford, British Columbia/George Elliot) of the RIT women's hockey team, was named the College Hockey America Goaltender of the Week on Monday, for the week ending Jan. 29, 2017. It is de Jonge's first weekly honor of the 2016-17 season and third of her collegiate career.
de Jonge became the first RIT goaltender in the Division I era to earn shutouts on back-to-back days, stopping all 52 shots she faced in a pair of wins over CHA foe Lindenwood last weekend. On Friday, RIT de Jonge stopped all 26 shots she faced for her first collegiate shutout, in RIT's 5-0 win over Lindenwood. Saturday, de Jonge was brilliant, equaling her feat from the previous day, making 26 saves for her second straight shutout and was named the game's first star in a 1-0 win.
de Jonge lowered her goals against average from 3.24 to 2.58 and raised her save percentage from .902 to .919 with her tremendous showing over the weekend. She is 2-2-1 with a 1.58 goals against average and a .942 save percentage in CHA play this season.
RIT is off this weekend, but returns to action on Feb. 10-11 with a weekend series at Robert Morris.
