RIT wrestling battles hard but comes up short to No. 19 Brockport on Senior Night

ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT wrestling team (6-5) competed in its final home match of the 2016-17 season, falling to No. 19 The College at Brockport (3-0), 33-13 on Senior Night in front of nearly 1,000 fans at Clark Gym on Wednesday evening. RIT would win four of the 10 bouts on the evening.
 
Before the match, the Tigers honored seniors and captains Nicholas Greenquist (Spring Lake, NJ/St. Rose), Jake Sepor (Stafford, NY/Pavilion), and Evan Vershay (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy). Greenquist and Sepor would earn two of RIT's four victories on the evening.
 
Jonathan Haas, the No. 10 wrestler in Division II at 125 lbs. earned five quick points for Brockport, with a win by technical fall. The Golden Eagles expanded their lead, as John Lauricella earned a pin 1:24 into the match at 133 lbs.
 
RIT would get on the board at 141 lbs., as Sepor improved to 19-1 on the season, earning a 7-3 win over Sean O'Hagan. It was a 3-2 score until Sepor earned a takedown with 30 seconds left and added one more in the final seconds.
 
Sean Peacock, who entered the night as the No. 6 wrestler at 149 lbs. in Division III, picked up a pin in 1:11 to give Brockport a 17-3 lead. The Golden Eagles would add to the lead at 157 lbs., as Dan Reagan earned a pin late in the third period, after Dempsey King (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) had broken a scoreless tie with a takedown seconds earlier. The Golden Eagles would up its lead to 27-3 after Michael Falcon picked up a win by major decision at 165 lbs.
 
Tory Cain (Ontario, NY/Wayne) would earn three points for the Tigers and improve to 4-1 in his comeback at 174 lbs., defeating James Schreck by shutout, 7-0. Greenquist would also make his senior night match a winning one, defeating Richard Mills in convincing fashion by major decision, 15-4 for his 17th win of the season. Sam Weinger (Blooming Grove, NY/Washingtonville) would end the match on a high note, getting a takedown with 14 seconds left in regulation to break a 1-1 tie and defeat Jacob Morris, 3-1.
 
The Tigers are back in action on Feb. 5 at the Wilkes Quad Meet. The Tigers will take on host Wilkes University, Alfred State College, and the University of Scranton.
