RIT student-athletes enjoy record-setting Fall 2016 semester in the classroom

ROCHESTER, NY – RIT student-athletes enjoyed a record-breaking Fall 2016 semester in the classroom, with its 675 members combining to record an impressive 3.31 grade-point average, highest in program history.
 
"The fall semester was truly outstanding from an academic standpoint," said RIT Executive Director of Athletics, Lou Spiotti Jr. "I take my hat off to our incredible student-athletes for never losing focus on what is most important" "A tip of the hat goes to our coaches as well for their tireless work at recruiting the best and for being a strong source of support for our students."
 
The women's cross country team combined to record a 3.784 highest grade-point average, highest among all 24 RIT athletics teams. Baseball had the best GPA among all RIT men's teams at 3.435. In total, nine teams had a combined GPA that exceeded 3.30.
 
A closer look behind the numbers indicate…
  • 405 student-athletes have a 3.3 or better overall grade-point average
  • 267 athletes had a 3.5 or better grade point-average during fall semester
  • 87 athletes had a 3.9 or better grade-point average during fall semester
  • 48 athletes had a perfect 4.0 grade-point average during fall semester
