HOUGHTON, NY – The RIT women's track and field team had three winners among several standout performances at the Highlander Invitational hosted by Houghton College at the Kerr-Pegula Field House on Friday evening.
Becca Schwan (LeRoy, NY/LeRoy) was victorious in the 800-meters by nearly one second in a time of 2:19.42.
Nicole Mackey (South New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley) won the 5,000-meter run by nearly 15 seconds in a time of 19:31.85. In field events,
Kendra Bush (Palmyra, NY/Newark) earned the win in the shot put with a throw of 12.52 meters. She was also fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 13.01 meters.
In sprint events,
Marissa Dispenza (Batavia, NY/Batavia) placed second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.50 seconds. She was also sixth in the 300-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 43.20 seconds.
Amelia Brunner (East Petersburg, PA/Hempfield) and
Ali Binga (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) were fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 400-meters. Brunner had a time of 1:04.18 and Binga was four tenths of a second back.
Sarah Cannon (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) placed seventh overall in the 600-meters with a time of 1:49.37.
Emma Jones (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) finished third in the mile run with a snappy time of 5:14.36, while
Jeriann Beiter (Lima, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) was fourth in the 5,000-meters, crossing the finish line in 19:49.44.
RIT's 4 x 200-meter relay team of Binga, Brunner, Dispenza, and
Emily Young (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) placed third overall in a time of 1:51.87.
In field events,
Samantha Kaplan (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz) was second in the pole vault with a leap of 3.12 meters, while
Jess Calzolari (Longmont, CO/Mead) placed fourth in the high jump with a leap of 1.50 meters.
Kaitlyn Houghtling (Elmira, NY/Thomas A. Edison) was second in both the long jump (5.17 meters) and triple jump (10.73 meters).
Darcy DeAngelis (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) third in the triple jump (10.67 meters) and fifth in the long jump (4.99 meters).
Julia Wojciechowski (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) was sixth in the wright throw with a throw of 12.65 meters, while
Madeline Pizzo (Irondequoit, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) placed fifth in the shot put (10.94 meters).
RIT is back in action next weekend at both the Brockport Golden Eagle Invitational and Terrier Invitational at Boston University.
