HOUGHTON, NY – Three victories highlighted a strong performance for the RIT men's track and field team, as they competed at the Highlander Invitational hosted by Houghton College at the Kerr-Pegula Field House on Friday evening.
Fresh off a school record in the 60-meter dash last weekend,
Matthew Lienhard (Allentown, PA/Allentown Catholic) won the 200-meter dash by 25 one-hundredths of a second in a time of 22.98 seconds. Teammate
Alaraba Sodiq Oladipo (Lagos, Nigeria/DoEstdot International) was right behind in third with a time of 23.29 seconds.
Ethan Maguire (Penfield, NY/Penfield) was also victorious for the Tigers in the pole vault with a leap of 4.57 meters.
RIT's 4 x 200-meter relay team of Lienhard, Sodiq Oladipo,
Markus Hines (Buffalo, NY/Hutchinson Tech.), and
Daniel Giuliano (Ledgewood, NJ/Roxbury) emerged victorious by 16 one-hundredths of a second over Liberty League rival St. Lawrence in a time of 1:33.32. The 4 x 400-meter relay squad of Robert Dalheim,
Curtis Geiger (Allentown, PA/Emmaus),
Eric Hambleton (Weare, NH/Bishop Brady), and Chris Callejo placed second in a time of 3:29.54. RIT's "B" team of
Brian Cusack (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional),
Grant Salk (Livermore, CA/Granada),
James Bailey (Danvers, MA/Danvers), and
Seth Baker (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) finished third overall in 3:38.84.
Myles Garner (Gurnee, IL/Warren Township) was third in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.61 meters, while Giuliano was 18 one-hundredths of a second behind in fifth. Dalheim crossed the finish line in a time of 51.39 seconds in the 400-meters to place fourth.
Matthew Meehan (West Caldwell, NJ/Caldwell) was fifth in the 600-meters, recording a time of 1:25.93. Geiger (36.90 seconds) and Callejo (36.91 seconds) had nearly identical times in the 300-meters.
Bailey and Salk placed sixth and seventh, respectively, in the mile run. Bailey finished the race in 4:32.27, while Salk went in 4:33.18.
Chris Schwab (Holliston, MA/Xaverian Brothers) and
Nate Butler (Warren, OH/Lakeview) were sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 5,000-meters. Schwab crossed the line in 16:45.79 and Butler finished in 16:55.78.
In field events, Giuliano was third in the long jump with a leap of 6.62 meters.
Austin White (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) and
Jack Smith (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) both had top leaps of 4.42 meters in the pole vault. Matthew Chuttey was sixth in the high jump with a leap of 1.65 meters. Zachery Darling was third in the weight throw (14.48 meters) and shot put (12.98 meters).
Jake Saxton (Merrimack, NH/Bishop Brady) (14.28 meters) was fifth in the weight throw, while
Mickey Evans (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville North) (12.32 meters) and
Kent Kellar (Wells, ME/Wells) (12.27) finished sixth and seventh in the shot put.
RIT is back in action next weekend at both the Brockport Golden Eagle Invitational and Terrier Invitational at Boston University.
