ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT men's track and field team kicked off the 2017 calendar year by hosting the RIT Tiger Invitational from the Gordon Field House on Saturday.
Matthew Lienhard (Allentown, PA/Allentown Catholic) set a school record in the 60-meter dash for the Tigers.
Lienhard won his preliminary race in a time of 7.13 seconds and won the final in 7.05 seconds, breaking the previous school mark of 7.15, set by current teammate
Markus Hines (Buffalo, NY/Hutchinson Tech.) last year. Jonathan Ennin was second (7.22 seconds) in the final, while
Alaraba Sodiq Oladipo (Lagos, Nigeria/DoEstdot International) was fourth (7.24 seconds).
Myles Garner (Gurnee, IL/Warren Township) (8.47 seconds), Dan Giuliano (8.65),
Jeremy McGrath (Chittenango, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) (9.06),
Mike Kahovec (Victor, NY/Victor) (9.37) and
Frank Borseti (Andover, MA/Andover) (9.62) led a second through sixth place charge for the Tigers in the 60-meter hurdles.
Sodiq Oladipo took the 200-meter dash by 25 one-hundredths of a second in 23.44 seconds. Giuliano (23.85) was third, while Ennin (23.87) placed fourth and
Tyler Quigley (Williamsport, PA/Loyalstock Township) (23.99) placed fifth.
Andrew DeRose (Shrewsbury, NJ/Red Bank Regional) and McGrath were sixth and seventh. Robert Dalheim (51.58 seconds) and
Christopher Callejo (West Babylon, NY/Patchouge-Medford) (51.98) were second and third, respectively, in the 400-meter dash.
Derek Swarthout (Macedon, NY/Penfield),
Eric Hambleton (Weare, NH/Bishop Brady), and
Jake Barker (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) placed third, fourth, and fifth for RIT in the 500-meter dash. Swarthout had a top time of 1:10.33 with Hambleton and Barker less than a second behind.
RIT's 4 x 400-meter relay team of Callejo, Dalheim, Hambleton, and Lienhard was victorious in 3:32.53. The team of Lucas Hallick,
Dan Jones (Lockport, NY/Lockport),
Kyle Kaniecki (Burton, OH/West Geauga), and Swarthout was right behind in second just over two seconds behind the winning group.
In middle distance events,
Matthew Meehan (West Caldwell, NJ/Caldwell) was seventh in the 800-meters with a time of 2:04.48.
James Bailey (Danvers, MA/Danvers) placed seventh in the 1,000-meters in an ECAC qualifying time of 2:36.04.
Grant Salk (Livermore, CA/Granada) also qualified for ECAC's in the event with a time of 2:36.73.
Evan Feigel (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) was sixth in the mile with a time of 4:37.99.
Nate Butler (Warren, OH/Lakeview) and
Chris Schwab (Holliston, MA/Xaverian Brothers) were third and fourth, respectively, in the 3,000-meter run. Butler had a time of 9:38.95, while Schwab finished in 9:45.20.
In field events,
Ethan Maguire (Penfield, NY/Penfield) and
Austin White (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) placed second and third in the pole vault. Maguire recorded a leap of 4.70 meters while White vaulted 4.55 meters.
Zach Darling (Rome, PA/Northeast Bradford),
Sean Terry (Hornell, NY/Hornell), and
Jake Saxton (Merrimack, NH/Bishop Brady) were second, third, and fourth in the shot put. Darling had a throw of 13.04 meters to lead the way, while Terry fired the shot 12.92 meters and Saxton, 12.73 meters. Darling had RIT's best throw in the weight throw at 14.49 meters with Saxton and Terry right behind.
RIT alumni Brian Walker (15.95 meters), Casey Doty (15.05 meters), and Troy Johnson (14.55 meters) excelled in the weight throw.
The Tigers are back in action on Friday, Jan. 20 at the Highlander Invitational hosted by Houghton College. The meet starts at 4 p.m.
