ROCHESTER, NY – RIT head women's basketball coach
Amy Reed is pleased to announce the 2016-17 regular season schedule. RIT will play 16 Liberty League contests, and nine non-conference games. The Tigers will play 10 home games, and face four teams that competed in the 2016 NCAA Division III Tournament.
"We are looking forward to challenging ourselves with a tough non-conference schedule," said Reed, who is entering her ninth season at RIT. "We open up with an improved SUNY Brockport team followed by our Southern California tournament at Occidental College. We will also take on Rochester, SUNY Geneseo, and St. John Fisher who were all in the NCAA Tournament last year. This will help us prepare for a tough league schedule."
RIT opens the 2016-17 season on the road at The College at Brockport on Nov. 15 before heading out West to play a pair of games at the Occidental Tournament in Southern California. The Tigers welcome Allegheny College to Clark Gymnasium on November 28 for the home opener.
The weekend of Dec. 2-3, RIT will compete in the Rochester Classic with games at Nazareth (Dec. 2) and at St. John Fisher (Dec. 3). These games replace the Wendy's College Classic which ended last season after 23 years. It was the longest-running in-season Division III Tournament .
After Christmas, the Tigers begin play in the highly competitive Liberty League, hitting the road to face Rensselaer and Skidmore the weekend of Dec. 30-31.
The Tigers play 14 of their final 15 games versus conference opponents. The Tigers close the regular season with a game at William Smith on Feb. 15 and host Union College on Feb. 17.
RIT went 20-7 in 2015-16, reaching the 20-win milestone for the first time in program history. The Tigers hosted their first-ever Liberty League Tournament game, and won their first tournament game, defeating Union in the semifinal.
