ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT women's crew varsity eight boat was named the Liberty League Boat of the Week on Monday, for the week ending April 10, 2016. It is the fourth time RIT has been honored by the conference during the 2015-16 season.
The varsity 8 boat won a pair of races over the weekend, defeating William Smith and Hamilton on Saturday, while dispatching St. Lawrence Sunday. On Saturday, RIT captured first place in the varsity 8 as
Erin Loughran (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy),
Kali Elahi (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit),
Amy Guthrie (Essex Junction, VT/Essex),
Brittany Dzugas-Smith (West Babylon, NY/Landmark),
Taylor Blackwell (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland),
Lindsey Schwartz (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili),
Sarah Foggett (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder),
Claudia Koenig (Derby, NY/Lake Shore), and
Colleen Ryan (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) finished five seconds ahead of the second place boat with a time of 7:23.87. Hamilton finished in second while William Smith claimed third overall.
On Sunday, the varsity 8 claimed first with a time of 6:22.47 by 21 seconds over St. Lawrence.
RIT is back in action on Saturday to face Liberty League foe Union College.
