STATEN ISLAND, NY – For the second straight week, RIT's distance medley relay team broke a school record, as the women's track and field team placed eighth out of 50 teams at the ECAC Championships, hosted by Rutgers-Newark College at the Ocean Breeze Athletics Complex on Friday, March 4 and Saturday, March 5. Overall, three school records were set over the weekend.

The Tigers finished with 29.2 points to earn the eighth place finish. Ithaca won the team title with 77 points.

The distance medley relay squad of Becca Schwan (LeRoy, NY/LeRoy), Liz Pieri (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt), Kristine Reed (Walton, NY/Walton), and Emma Jones (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) smashed their school record, set last week at the NYSCTC Championships by 13 seconds, finishing second to Misericordia by under a second, finishing in a time of 12:00.04. That time is currently the ninth fastest in Division III this season.

Jones crushed teammate Becky Greiner (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta)'s school mark in the 3,000-meter run by nearly 17 seconds, finishing third overall in the event with a blistering time of 10:03.45.

Schwan broke Nicole Varble's five-year old school mark in the 1,000-meter run on Saturday, finishing third overall in a time of 2:57.82. Varble held the previous school record of 3:01.24. Reed was eighth in a time of 3:04.44.

Kendra Bush (Palmyra, NY/Newark) recorded a season-best throw of 12.62 meters in the shot put, finishing fifth. She just missed her career-best indoor throw of 12.67 meters. Jessica DeAngelo (Batavia, NY/Alexander) was tied for eighth in the pole vault with a leap of 3.31 meters.

Hailey Burkhart (Underhill, VT/Mt. Mansfield Union) placed fifth overall in the pentathlon with a score of 3,069 points. Her best finish in the five events was a third place effort in the shot put.

On Sunday, the entries will be revealed for the NCAA Championship, which will take place next weekend, March 11-12 from the Charles Benson Bear Recreation and Athletic Center from Grinnell, Iowa.
