Six wrestlers earn Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference All-Academic honors

ROCHESTER, NY – Senior Jake Swearingen (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown), sophomores Joe Cutugno (Ventnor, NJ/Atlantic City) and Coty Lutz (Forestport, NY/Adirondack), along with freshmen Kirkland Feeney (Lockport, NY/Lockport), Dempsey King (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford), and Austin Prince (Nunda, NY/Keshequa) of the RIT wrestling team were named to the 2016 Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference (ECWC) All-Academic Team on Thursday, March 17.
 
Recipients of this honor must have a 3.30 cumulative grade point average or higher (through the last eligible grading period of the current academic year) while completing an entire season as a member of a conference institution's wrestling team. Freshmen and transfers that have been enrolled full-time for at least one semester are eligible to receive this honor. A total of 47 wrestlers were honored as members of the ECWC All-Academic Team.

Swearingen, RIT's lone repeat selection, and a mechanical engineering major, wrestled at 197 lbs. One of RIT's three captains, Swearingen recorded three wins before suffering a season-ending injury. He finished his RIT career with 31 wins. Overall, Swearingen was a three-time ECWC All-Academic selection and will be an active duty officer in the United States Army.

Both civil engineering technology majors, Cutugno and Lutz combined for 11 wins this season. Cutugno, who wrestled at 165/174 lbs. had 10 victories, including two by pin. Lutz, a wrestler at 165 lbs., earned a victory by pin.
 
King, a civil engineering technology major, emerged as RIT's top newcomer, despite battling injuries to record an impressive 22-9 record with nine wins via pin in 2015-16. He is a two-time ECWC Rookie of the Week and won the title at 149 lbs. at the 50th annual RIT Invitational on Dec. 5. King also recorded RIT's highest grade-point average at 3.79.
 
Prince, a physician assistant major, recorded six victories in 2015-16, including one by pin, while competing primarily at 174 lbs.
