ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's swimming and diving team (1-0) opened the 2016-17 season with a 134-104 win over Oswego State (0-1) Wednesday evening at Judson Pool. Four different individuals and one relay team were victorious at the meet.
The men opened the meet with a one-two finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of
Derek Rothrock (Ashburn, VA/Briar Woods),
Shawn Nevers (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial),
Daniel Yuen-Schat (Honolulu, HI/Kaiser) and
Ryan Facchine (Fairview, PA/Fairview) placed first in a time of 1:39.30. In second, the team of
John O'Gorman (Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth),
Dennis Zhou (Antwerp, NY/Indian River),
Spencer Hall (Plattsburgh, NY/Plattsburgh) and
Steven Paine (York, PA/Dallastown Area) finished in a time of 1:44.05.
Hayes (1:49.33), O'Gorman (1:50.79) and
Adam Reitz (Hilton, NY/Hilton) (1:54.04) were one-two-three in the 200-yard freestyle. Facchine (22.59) and Rothrock (22.60) were one-two in a blanket finish in the 50-yard freestyle. Facchine and O'Gorman placed one-two in the 100-yard freestyle, while Rothrock,
Nicholas Genovese (Lincoln, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury) and Yuen-Schat swept the top three spots in the 100-yard backstroke.
Joe Wang (Framingham, MA/Framingham) took the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:08.02, while Zach Ward placed third.
In diving, Ben Hamilton placed second in the three-meter event with a score of 229.55.
Alex Dieroff (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) was third with a score of 200.40, and
Chase Van Duyne (Auburn, NY/Auburn) was fourth with a score of 180.80. In the one-meter event, Hamilton was second, while Van Duyne and Whit Whitman were third and fourth respectively.
RIT returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 22 when the Tigers head to Liberty League rival Rensselaer for a meet that gets underway at 1 p.m.
