CASTILE, NY – The RIT men's cross country team recorded an impressive third place finish out of 24 teams at the Mike Woods Invitational hosted by SUNY Geneseo at Letchworth State Park on Saturday.
Host Geneseo, the No. 1 team in the current USTFCCCA Division III national poll, had the top seven finishers en route to the team victory with 17 points. Issac Garcia-Cassani won the individual title by 17 seconds in a time of 24:39.5.
Oswego was second with 108 points, just ahead of RIT, who finished with 130 points.
Senior
Jon Pelzar (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow) was RIT's top finisher, placing eighth overall in the 316-runner field with an impressive time of 25:35.0 over the 8,000-meter course. Junior
James Bailey (Danvers, MA/Danvers) was RIT's second best finisher, placing 24th overall in 26:00.0.
Senior
Grant Salk (Livermore, CA/Granada) was 42nd overall in a time of 26:38.6, while junior
Jay Humphreys (Sherman, CT/New Milford) and senior
John Mooney (Norwich, NY/Norwich) rounded out RIT's top-five, placing 51st and 52nd overall, respectively with times of 26:51.6 and 26:53.2.
Senior
Chris Schwab (Holliston, MA/Xaverian Brothers) (69th), and freshman
Reid Kovacs (Palo Alto, CA/Henry M. Gunn) (77th) and
Andrew Chabot (Campton, NH/Plymouth Regional) (78th) all placed in the top-100 for RIT.
"This was one of our best team races," said RIT head coach
David Warth. "The guys ran hard and raced well. We are improving each race which bodes well for the Liberty League Championship and beyond.
The Tigers are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Pre-Atlantic Regional Meet hosted by Rowan University in Sewell, N.J. Racing begins at 11 a.m.
