Top-ranked RIT men's lacrosse to face Morrisville State in first round of NCAA Division III Tournament

ROCHESTER, NY -- The No. 1 RIT men's lacrosse team (18-0) will play Morrisville State (11-5) in the first round of the 2015 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship. That first round game will take place on Wednesday, May 6 at Tiger Stadium at a time to be determined.

RIT received the automatic bid to the 2015 tournament with a 25-14 win over Union College in the Liberty League Championship on Sunday. Junior long-stick midfielder Matt Hossack (Port Perry, Ontario/Port Perry) scored six goals, grabbed seven ground balls, won eight face-offs and caused three turnovers, earning Tournament MVP honors. Allister Warren (Toronto, Ontario/Malvern Collegiate Institute) scored four goals, while Brad Gillies (Oakville, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) dished out five assists.

RIT, ranked first in the USILA Division III poll, will make its 17th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and sixth in as many years. Last season, the Tigers defeated Ithaca in the second round, went on to beat Union in the quarterfinals before falling to the eventual national champion, Tufts in the semifinals. Overall, RIT is 16-16 all time in NCAA Tournament games, and has made five straight trips to the national quarterfinals, three trips to the national semifinals (2011, 2013, 2014) and appeared in its first championship game in 2013.

The Tigers are 18-0 overall this season, and have an impressive 92-8 (.920 winning percentage) record over the last five seasons. The Tigers have won six straight conference championships, including two Empire 8 titles (2010, 2011), and four Liberty League crowns (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015).
