Men's crew celebrates Senior Day by sweeping Union

ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT men's crew team hosted Union on the Genesee River on Saturday, April 18. RIT completed a sweep of all events in their final home race of the season. The Tigers honored fourth year bioinformatics major Cameron Baker (Rochester, NY/Fairport), the squad's sole senior.
 
The second varsity 8 opened racing with a first place finish. Henry Zimmerman (Winnetka, IL/Winnetka), Jordan Short (Gill, MA/Northfield Mount Hermon), Chris Satter (Boulder, CO/Fairview), Dylan Bannon (Amherst, MA/Amherst Regional), Austin Steinmetz, David Stolze (Fairport, NY/Fairport), Najib Quinones (Copenhagen, NY/Copenhagen), Pat McGaw (Potsdam, NY/Canton) and Ethan Davidson (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg) crossed the line of the 1,700-meter course in 6:03.53. Union was second in 6:40.74.
 
The varsity 8 also earned a victory, picking up a win with a time of 6:02.03. The line-up of Cameron Baker (Rochester, NY/Fairport), Eric Schulken (Mount Pleasant, SC/Academic Magnet), Justin Carter (Brockport, NY/Brockport), Joe Grosso (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Prep), Konstantin Hamilton (Gaithersburg, MD/Magruder), Tim Frey (New Freedom, PA/Susquehannock), Andrew Fisher (Syracuse, NY/Onondaga), Doug Moyer (Downingtown, PA/Dowingtown West) and Samuel Adams (Oneida, NY/Oneida) beat out Union's time of 6:13.67.  
 
The Tigers third varsity 8 and novice 8 squared off in the final event of the day. The novice 8 of Christopher Atras (Willow Grove,PA/Archbishop Wood ), Raymond James Martin (Scotia, NY/Burnt Hills), Marcus Boeck-Chenevier (), Lucas Battisti (Chantilly, VA/W.T.Woodson), Tim Preskenis (Simsbury, CT/Simsbury), James Krisher (Camillus, NY/West Gensee), Jim Burke (Pittsburgh, PA/Central Catholic), John Vavala () and Nicholas Krzysiak (Utica, NY/Proctor) completed the course in 6:24.31, besting the third varsity 8 (6:36.56). The 3V line-up featured Elliot Courtney (Babylon, NY/Babylon), Jeff Straunch, Alex Corvino (Westford, MA/Westford Academy), Kirk Wagner, Jimmy Cummings (Westford, MA/Westford Academy), Mike Doremus (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon), Edwin Jensen (Fishkill, NY/John Jay), Ryan Fairbanks (Cape Vincent, NY/Thousand Islands) and Kyle Onorato (Brookfield, CT/Brookfield).
 
RIT competes in the Liberty League Rowing Championship next Friday, April 24, in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
