GRANTHAM, PA –
Seniors Tory Cain (Ontario, NY/Wayne) and Brad Mayville (Marion, NY/Wayne) of the RIT wrestling team each advanced to the NCAA Championship, as the Tigers recorded a solid ninth place finish out of 18 teams with 52 points at the 2015 NCAA Mideast Regional hosted by Messiah College on Sunday. Host Messiah won the regional with 111 points, barely getting past Mount Union, who finished with 109 points.

Both Cain and Mayville recorded third place finishes in their respective weight classes. Cain advanced to the NCAA Championship for the first time, while Mayville will make his second straight appearance, as the top-three wrestlers from each weight class advanced to NCAA's. The NCAA Championship will take place on Friday, March 13 and Saturday, March 14 at The Giant Center in Hershey, Pa. Messiah will also be the host institution.

Cain went 5-1 at 174 lbs., improving to 28-5 on the season. He began his day with a pin over Caleb Fox of Muskingum in 2:46, before dropping a close match to Sonnieboy Blanco of Washington and Jefferson, 14-12. In the consolations, Cain defeated Brandon Conrad of Lycoming, 7-5, and upended Tyler Lusht of Brockport, 8-2. Cain advanced to the third place match with a 3-1 victory over Jordan Powell of Thiel. Cain would advance to the NCAA Tournament by exacting revenge on Blanco in the third place match, winning another close match, 5-4.

Like Cain, Mayville also went 5-1 at 149 lbs. and has an identical 28-5 record in 2014-15. Mayville, ranked seventh in all of Division III, began his day with a 9-1 win over Mark Millisci of Oswego before losing to Jordan Dyer of Brockport, 5-2. Like Cain, Mayville had to get to third the long way through the consolation bracket. Mayville pinned Drew Spector of York in 4:09 and Chris Williamson of Messiah in just 1:04. His toughest match of the consolations came in his second to last bout, just getting by Ben Kazimir of Mount Union, 7-6. In the third place match, Mayville breezed to a 12-1 major decision over Damon Cheek of Heidelberg to make the NCAA Tournament.

Nicholas Greenquist (Spring Lake, NJ/St. Rose) recorded a strong fifth place finish at 165 lbs., finishing his season with a 26-8 record. Greenquist advanced all the way to the semifinals with a 14-0 win over Michael Falcon of Brockport and 7-3 overtime win over Sam Guidi of Waynesburg University. After falling to eventual runner-up Terner Gott of John Carroll, 4-2 in overtime, Greenquist fell to Myles Wright of Heidelberg in a consolation match, dropping him from a chance at a top-three finish. Greenquist would rebound to defeat Colt Lovejoy of Ohio Northern in the fifth place match.

Jake Sepor (Stafford, NY/Pavilion) picked up a win at 141 lbs. to finish his season with a 24-15 record. Won Kim (Millbrae, CA/Mills) earned a win in the consolation round at 157 lbs., finishing his year 8-11. Nick Fisk (Las Cruces, NM/Mayfield) garnered a win in the consolation round at 184 lbs., and recorded a career-high 12 victories. Sam Weinger (Blooming Grove, NY/Washingtonville) also picked up his 25th win of the season by pin in a consolation match at 285 lbs., while Jake Swearingen (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) also competed at 184 lbs.

Cain and Mayville become the first RIT duo to advance to the NCAA Championships since Luke Baum and Mike McInally in 2008-09. Both wrestlers earned All-American honors that season. McInally is RIT's last All-American, earning runner-up honors in 2011.
