ROCHESTER, NY - Freshman Dempsey King (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) of the RIT wrestling team was named the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference (ECWC) Rookie of the Week on Tuesday, for the week ending Dec. 6, 2015. It is the first weekly honor of King's career.

King won four matches in his first RIT Invitational on Saturday, including an 8-2 decision over John Connick (JCU) in the championship match at 149 lbs. King began his day with a bye in the first round. He went on to beat Nick Taylor (Wesleyan) 5-0 in his next bout. In the quarterfinals, King defeated Dan Murphy (Oneonta State) with a 7-4 decision. King took down Carter Armendarez in the semifinals 8-2 advancing to the championship match. King is now 8-2 this season

King and the Tigers are back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 9, as No. 13 Ithaca comes to the Clark Gym for a dual meet that gets underway at 7 p.m.
