ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT wrestling team (5-9) put up a valiant effort before falling to The College at Brockport (3-0), ranked No. 19 in the National Wrestling Coaches Association poll, 32-12 on Wednesday evening in front of 500 fans at Clark Gymnasium.

Before the match, RIT honored seniors Tory Cain (Ontario, NY/Wayne), Nick Fisk (Las Cruces, NM/Mayfield), and Brad Mayville (Marion, NY/Wayne), who competed in their final regular season home match. It was also RIT's Tiger Den event, with many fellow student-athletes in the crowd to support the Tigers.

Mayville, Nicholas Greenquist (Spring Lake, NJ/St. Rose), and Cain earned wins for the Tigers. Both Mayville and Cain improved to 19-4 this season, while Greenquist moved to 16-4.

In the featured match of the evening, seventh-ranked Mayville and Jordan Dyer squared off at 149 lbs. Dyer took a 4-2 lead after the first period on the strength of two takedowns. Dyer led 6-3 in the second before Mayville secured a reversal and a takedown to tie the match. With just five seconds left in the period, Mayville was able to pin Dyer to improve to 19-4 on the season, as the large crowd erupted.

After a RIT forfeit at 125 lbs. gave Brockport a 6-0 lead, Eric Velez upped the Golden Eagles advantage by defeating Kevin Palmieri (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta), 8-5 at 133 lbs., while Sean O'Hagan secured a major decision over RIT's Jake Sepor (Stafford, NY/Pavilion) at 141 lbs. to put Brockport up 13-0.

After the Mayville win, James Devine III gave Brockport a 19-6 lead after recording a pin over Won Kim (Millbrae, CA/Mills) in 4:44 at 157 lbs. At the time of the pin, Kim was leading by a score of 4-3.

Greenquist jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the second period before hanging on to defeat Brockport's Michael Falcon, 7-3 at 165 lbs. Cain led from start to finish in a 6-0 victory over James Schreck at 174 lbs., just missing a pinfall in the third period to cut Brockport's team lead to 19-12.

Brockport would put the match away late, as Tyler Lusht pinned Fisk in 1:04 at 184 lbs., Jef Palmieri secured a 15-3 major decision victory over Jake Swearingen (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) at 197 lbs., and Cole Tristam defeated Kelsey Patten (Alexander, NY/Alexander), 6-1 at 285 lbs. to close out the match.
