ROCHESTER, NY – Five members of the RIT women's lacrosse team were named to the 2014 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III Academic Honor Roll.
Ashleigh Caruso (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool),
Eva D'Ignazio (Swarthmore, PA/The Agnes Irwin School),
Aylannah Dylag (Canton, CT/Canton),
Kirsten Francis (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) and Cori VanKerKhove were among the 233 student-athletes from 79 different institutions.
RIT was one of 125 schools in Division III women's lacrosse that posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The Tigers had one of the highest team GPA's in 2013-14 at 3.40.
Caruso, a diagnostic medical sonography major and a 2013 Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District Team selection, played in all 15 games in her final year, tallying 25 points on 19 goals and six assists, with 24 ground balls. She scored three goals in a win over Bard on April 25. Caruso has been a member of the Dean's List since her first year at RIT, and was a two-time high school Academic All-American. Caruso was named a Liberty League Women's Lacrosse All-Academic selection and holds a 3.8 overall grade point average.
D'Ignazio, a junior graphic design major at RIT, helped anchor a Tigers defense that allowed 11.32 goals per game in 2014. She started 13 games, tallying 20 ground balls and causing 13 turnovers. She tallied her first collegiate goal in a win over Bard on April 25 and scooped up four ground balls twice versus William Smith and Muhlenberg.
Dylag, an information technology major and two-time IWLCA academic honor roll selection, played in 12 games in 2014, grabbing eight ground balls while causing eight turnovers. She started nine games and was a Liberty League All-Academic selection for the second straight season to wrap up her RIT career in her junior season.
Francis, a visual media major, played in 13 games for RIT in 2014, tallying four goals with 25 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers. She was a 2014 Liberty League All-Academic selection.
VanKerkhove, a nutrition management major, started all 15 games for the Tigers in 2014, her final season at RIT. She caused six turnovers, grabbed 15 ground balls, and had seven draw controls. VanKerkhove was a two-time Liberty League All-Academic selection in 2013 and 2014.
RIT finished the season with a 5-10 overall record and finished tied for seventh in the Liberty League standings.
