Ronnie Canestro earns 2014 ABCA/Rawlings All-New York Region Third Team honors

ROCHESTER, NY - Senior outfielder/pitcher Ronnie Canestro (East Amherst, NY/Nichols) of the RIT baseball team was named to the 2014 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-New York Region Third Team on Tuesday, May 20. He helped lead the Tigers to a 19-16 record in 2014.

Earlier in the month, Canestro earned All-Liberty League honors for the fourth straight season, being named to the second team. He hit .382 with team-best totals of 42 hits, 54 total bases, 27 runs scored, and eight doubles, while driving in 18 runs and stealing eight bases. Canestro also posted a .457 on-base percentage and a .491 slugging percentage in 130 plate appearances. Canestro, who earned All-Empire 8 second team honors in 2011, All-Liberty League first team honors in 2012, and honorable mention accolades in 2013, finished his RIT career with a .314 batting average, ninth all-time with 144 hits, ninth with 101 runs scored, 21 doubles, 65 runs batted in, and 25 stolen bases. On the mound, Canestro struck out 85 batters in 79 career innings.
