Men's distance medley relay team earns All-American honors with seventh place finish at NCAA Division III Championships

NAPERVILLE, IL -- The RIT men's distance medley relay team placed seventh, earning All-American accolades, at the 2013 NCAA Division III Championships on Friday evening in Naperville, Illinois. The team of Mike Kurvach (Victor, NY/Victor), Cameron Lee (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Sutherland), Adam Irr (Newfane, NY/Newfane), and Matt Giannino (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) placed seventh in a time of 10:04.23 in the finals. This foursome enjoyed a tremendous indoor season, winning the Liberty League Championship. It was the first NCAA trip for all four student-athletes.

In other action from Naperville, Andrew Athias (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) placed twelfth in the long jump, posting a distance of 6.65 meters in the finals. It was his first trip to the NCAA Championships. Athias won the Liberty League title and set a school mark of 7.20 meters on Feb. 9.

On Saturday, sophomore Jamie Dorren (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit) placed 10th in the high jump, with a leap of 1.99 meters, just missing on All-American status. Dorren made his second trip to the NCAA Championships. Dorren is RIT's record holder and set a Liberty League record in winning the high jump on Feb. 9 with a leap of 2.07 meters.
