ROCHESTER, NY - For the first time this season, the RIT men's track and field team has moved into the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) national top-25 rankings, as the organization announced its weekly rankings on Wednesday. RIT moved up 38 spots to No. 16 nationally after a dominant performance at the Liberty League Indoor Track and Field Championships held at the Gordon Field House last Saturday.
On Saturday, RIT set four school and Liberty League Championship records, finishing with 209 points to beat second place St. Lawrence by 72 points to claim its second straight league title. Sophomore
Jamie Dorren (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit) was named the Liberty League Field Athlete of the Meet.
Several Tigers are among the national leaders in various events this season. Dorren currently has the fourth best leap in the high jump in Division III this season with a leap of 2.07 meters.
Andrew Athias (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) is fifth nationally in the long jump with a leap of 7.20 meters, while
Marquis Moore (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) is eighth nationally in the triple jump (14.47 meters) and 14th in the long jump (7.06 meters).
On the track side,
Matt Giannino (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) has the 14th fastest time in all of Division III in the 800-meter run this season with a time of 1:55.33 and is 28th in the mile (4:17.62).
Cameron Lee (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Sutherland) has the 15th fastest time in the country in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.32 seconds, while
Ben Kelley (Mansfield Center, CT/E.O. Smith ) has the 20th fastest time in Division III (8.37 seconds). RIT's distance medley relay team of
Mike Kurvach (Victor, NY/Victor), Lee,
Adam Irr (Newfane, NY/Newfane), and Giannino have the 19th fastest time in the nation (10:28.91).
RIT is right back in action on Friday, as they host the Tiger Invitational at the Gordon Field House. That meet gets underway at 4 p.m.
