Men's hockey to face Penn State at Pegula Ice Arena on Friday

ROCHESTER, NY –
The RIT men's hockey team will look for its first win of the 2013-14 season, as they make the trek to brand-new Pegula Ice Arena to take on Penn State university in a single, non-conference game on Friday evening at 7:05 p.m.
 
RIT went 0-1-1 on the road at Clarkson last weekend, falling by a score of 4-1 on Friday evening, and rebounding to score two third period goals to earn a 3-3 tie on Saturday evening. On Friday, Brad Reid (Delta, British Columbia/Coquitlam Express) scored RIT's lone goal. On Saturday, Mike Colavecchia (Maple, Ontario/Lindsay Muskies) scored two goals, including the game-tying tally with 4:33 remaining in regulation. Nolan Descoteaux (Dallas, TX/South Shore Kings) assisted on both third period goals, while Ben Lynch (Blaine, MN/Lincoln Stars) also scored. In goal, Jordan Ruby (Tavistock, Ontario/Wellington Dukes) stopped 65-of-72 shots over the weekend.
 
Colavecchia, Lynch, and Descoteaux are tied for the team lead in scoring with four points apiece. Colavecchia and Lynch have three goals each, including a pair of power-play tallies. RIT is sixth nationally on the power-play, converting at 27.8 percent (5-for-18). In goal, Ruby has appeared in all four games this season, recording a 4.19 goals against average and .873 save percentage.
 
Penn State enters Friday's contest with a 1-2-0 record after dropping a pair of games at Air Force last weekend. The Nittany Lions fell by scores of 5-2 on Friday and 3-1 on Saturday. Penn State is getting outscored by its opponents, 9-7 early on this season. Eric Scheid, David Goodwin, and Luke Juha lead the Nittany Lions in scoring with two points apiece. Scheid has a pair of goals. In net, Matthew Skoff is 0-1-1 with a 2.06 goals against average and .934 save percentage.
 
Penn State won the only previous meeting between the two schools, 3-2 at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester on Oct. 20, 2012. Max Gardiner had a goal and an assist to lead the Nittany Lions, while Curtis Loik and Casey Bailey also scored. P.J. Musico made 40 saves in net, as the Tigers held a 42-22 edge in shots. Lynch had a goal and an assist to lead RIT offensively.
 
Pegula Ice Arena opened on Oct. 9, with the Nittany Lions earning a 4-1 win over Army. The building is approximately 200,000-square feet, a 6,000-seat state-of-the-art, multi-purpose facility located right on campus. RIT will open the Gene Polisseni Center on campus in time for the 2014-15 season.
