ROCHESTER, NY - The honors keep rolling for sophomore goaltender #
Ali Binnington (Oakville, Ontario/Mississauga Chiefs)# of the RIT women's hockey team, as she was named the College Hockey America (CHA) Goaltender for the Month of January, the league announced on Thursday afternoon. She has previously earned CHA Goaltender of the Week honors four times this season, including two accolades in January.
Binnington finished January with a 4-1-1 record along with two shutouts for the Tigers, recording a sparkling 1.14 goals against average and .953 save percentage. She opened the month by stopping 29 shots in a 2-1 win over Robert Morris on Jan. 4, then made 31 saves in helping lead the Tigers to a win over the Colonials by the same score the next day. Binnington made 15 saves in a 6-0 shutout win over Sacred Heart on Jan. 19, then stopped 22 shots in a 2-2 draw vs. Robert Morris on Jan. 26. She saved her best for the last game of the month, stopping all 24 shots she faced, including two shorthanded breakaways to record her fifth shutout of the season in a 2-0 win over Robert Morris on Jan. 27.
Binnington is now 9-5-3 with a 1.88 goals against average and .926 save percentage this season. Her five shutouts are tied for fifth nationally.
The Tigers open the month of February with a pair of games at CHA foe Lindenwood University. Friday's game starts at 8 p.m., while Saturday's contest begins at 3 p.m.
