ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT women's hockey team opened its 2012-13 season with a 6-1 win over the Oakville Hornets of the Ontario Provincial Women's Hockey League in an exhibition contest at Ritter Arena on Sunday afternoon. Today's game marks RIT's first as a Division I program, as the Tigers are making the move up for the 2012-13 season.

Celeste Brown (Great Falls, MT/National Sports Academy) and
Tenecia Hiller (Brampton, Ontario/Brampton Thunder) scored a pair of goals apiece for RIT. (Woodstock, Ontario/Waterloo K-W Rangers)Katie Hubert (Burlington, Ontario/Burlington Barracudas) and
Marissa Maugeri (Ajax, Ontario/Durham West Lightning) also scored goals. (Woodstock, Ontario/Waterloo K-W Rangers)Carly Payerl (Kitchener, Ontario/Resurrection Catholic) and

RIT out-shot Oakville, 33-24. The Tigers were 1-for-4 with the man-advantage, while Oakville was 0-for-5. Hornets netminder Camille Leonard made 27 saves in defeat.
RIT jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period of play, out-shooting the Hornets, 15-6.

Binnington had to make a big save midway through the period, as a Tiger defensive miscue led to a partial breakaway by Hayley Scamurra. Binnington held her ground and was able to deny the Oakville forward the goal.
With 4:46 left in the period, Brown was the recipient of a great pass by Moss, banging in a shot from in tight past Leonard to make it 2-0 RIT. Kunichika won the face-off back to Moss, who circled down low and fired the pass to Brown.
Kunichika nearly made it 3-0 moments later, ringing a shot off the crossbar from the slot.
The Tigers went up 3-0 midway through the second period on a 5-on-3 power-play, as Hiller tipped in a pass from
Carly Payerl (Kitchener, Ontario/Resurrection Catholic) at the side of the net that just went over the goasl line. #
Morgan Scoyne (Drumbo, Ontario/Stoney Creek Sabres)# drew the second assist on the goal, as she found Payerl in front, who attempted a pass/shot that went off Hiller, who was all alone to the right of Leonard.

The TIgers will open the 2012-13 regular season on Friday and Saturday against No. 10 Mercyhurst at Ritter Arena. Friday's contest, RIT's first as a Division I program, gets underway at 7:05 p.m., while Saturday's contest starts at 2 p.m.
