ROCHESTER, NY -- Junior #
Shelby Vakiener (Fairport, NY/Fairport)# of the RIT women's lacrosse team was named a 2012 Synapse Sports Division III Second Team All-American on Wednesday. Earlier this week, Vakiener garnered IWLCA first team All-New York Region accolades. Vakiener will be eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-American teams, which will be announced on May 24.
Vakiener earns her fourth All-American honors of her career, after being a second team IWLCA selection and a third team Synapes Sports selection a season ago. She led the Liberty League Player of the Year, finished the season with team records for goals (78), assists (37) and points (115). She scored at least three goals and recorded at least four points in all 17 games for the Tigers this year, and is now RIT's all-time leader in points, goals, assists and draw controls.
RIT finished the season with a 10-7 overall record and were second in the Liberty League with a 7-2 conference record, losing to William Smith 14-10 in the Liberty League semifinals.
