Erin LaFave (Troy, MI/Bloomfield Hills Lahser) smashed the RIT and United States Deaf Athlete record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for the second straight week, as the RIT women's track and field team competed in day one of the 2012 ECAC Championships hosted by Rensselaer at Ned Harkness Field on Thursday on Friday. RIT finished tied for 25th overall with 12 points. Ithaca won the team title with 68 points.
LaFave, who finished in 11:09.38 last weekend, smashing both records, lowered her mark by nearly nine seconds on Thursday, finishing in 11:00.74, earning a third place finish. That time is currently 23rd among all Division III runners.
Freshman
Amanda White (Watertown, NY/Watertown) recorded a fifth place finish in the 800-meters, recording a personal best time of 2:15.10.
Jen Adams (Batavia, NY/Batavia) placed seventh in the long jump with a leap of 5.23 meters.
The Tigers will await a few possible NCAA bids, which will be announced on Sunday.
