LaFave Sets American Deaf Athlete and RIT Record as Women's Track and Field Competes at Oneonta State May Meet

ONEONTA, NY --
The RIT women's track and field team competed at the Oneonta State May Meet on Saturday, May 12, with several Tigers having great finishes. Erin LaFave (Troy, MI/Bloomfield Hills Lahser) broke her own American Deaf Athlete and RIT school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

LaFave placed second overall in the event with a time of 11:09.38, breaking the previous school record of 11:10.40, set by Trisha Sliker (Albion, NY/Albion) in 2006. It is the 33rd best time in the nation this season. LaFave set a personal best in the event and is now the fastest American Deaf Athlete in the event.

Jen Adams (Batavia, NY/Batavia) took first in the long jump, setting a meet record with a leap of 5.67 meters, the 20th best jump of the season in Division III. Amanda White (Watertown, NY/Watertown) took third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:17.22, while Katie Sessions (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) finished fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 10.82 meters, and Elizabeth Sofia took seventh in the hammer throw with a toss of 41.69 meters.

The Tigers are back in action on Thursday and Friday, May 17-18, when they travel to Troy, N.Y. for the 2012 ECAC Championships.
