WORCESTER, MA - The RIT men's crew team traveled to Lake Quinsigamond to take on WPI, Skidmore and Tufts on Sunday morning.  Despite the overcast skies, mild temperatures and little early morning wind made for ideal racing conditions.

The men's varsity eight of #T.J. Binotto#, #Chris Massey (Greenlawn, NY/Harborfields)#, #Sean Kennelly (Mendon, VT/Rutland)#, #Evan Moreshead (Saco, ME/Thornton Academy)#, #Nick Lipala (Lake Hoptacong, NJ/Jefferson Township)#, #Fielding Confer (Waverly, PA/Abington Heights)#, #George Spragins (Brockport, NY/Brockport)#, Stu Burgess (Buffalo, NY/City Honors), and #Chris Guerra ( West Seneca, NY/Canisius)# opened their race with a strong start, yielding several seats to WPI but holding off Skidmore and Tufts despite under-stroking both boats.  WPI continued to open water over the middle 1000, while Skidmore fought to stay with RIT.  Over the final 500 the RIT men executed an impressive sprint, creating open water leads on Skidmore and Tufts while making up seconds in an effort to catch WPI.  Ultimately, WPI's lead was too large and they held on to win by a 10 second margin.  RIT finished 10 seconds ahead of Skidmore and 13 seconds ahead of Tufts.

The men's second varsity eight of #Lianna Potrikus (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna)#, Stu Burgess (Buffalo, NY/City Honors), #Eric Schulken (Mount Pleasant, SC/Academic Magnet)#, #Tim Halsch (West Hills, CA/El Camino Real)#, #Fran Perkovic (Zadar, Croatia/Gimnazia Jurja Barakovica)#, #Keith Martin (Poughkeepsie, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes)#, #Christopher Almonte (Santiago, Dominican Republic/Urban School of Design and Construction)#, #Shaun Avery (Lisbon, ME/Lisbon)#, and #Chad Monkhouse (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone)# found themselves in an early dogfight with the WPI 2V8 and 3V8.  All three boats matched strokes through the first 1250 meters of the race. Uncertain balance in the RIT boat gave the WPI 2V8 an edge, which they exploited with a significant sprint effort.  The WPI 2V8 won the race with a 17 second margin over RIT and a 22 second margin over their 3V8.

On Saturday, April 28, the Tigers visit Saratoga Springs for the Liberty League Rowing Championships.
